Let's get this party started...

I found these two video's put together by goodmagazine.com. They seem to be neutral and point out some of the major campaign issues of each candidate. I figured it would be a good intro to debate. Here we go, let's start with McCain:

And now Obama:

Interesting videos, but obviously left-leaning. McCain is not my guy, but in the interest of being objective, most of the info presented in McCain's video was presented in a negative light (almost the lowest class rank; contentious personality; etc, etc,) when you can easily find plenty of similar info on Obama.

Just think back in your own life......if you compile all of the less than desireable things you've said or done, you're going to look like a real schmuck. However, if you only state the wonderful things you've done you'll appear to be too good to be true. Every candidate has done things or holds positions that we each would find distasteful or would not agree with -- and they each are probably good people at heart, with good qualities we would admire, who sincerely want to make a difference. Yes, I could probably find something good to say about Clinton if I had enough time to do enough research.....I guess anything's possible.

Obama's video made it seem as if he was the great healer of the entire world, let alone our own country. I don't remember anything in his video that could be looked at as haivng been portrayed in a negative light.

So, we all know that I lean right with my politics, however I'm not defending "my candidate" here because I would have selected somene else and I'm not sure that I really believe what McCain has been saying throughout his campaign anyway.

But it should be noted that Good Magazine is a left leaning publication, founded by Ben Goldhirsh who's buddy and fellow writer is none other than Al Gore's son.

With the advent of the internet you can find positive or negative video presentations on EVERY candidate that take things out of context and twist them, intending to persuade the viewer one way or the other. This unfairly done to candidates on both sides. This is the conundrum of politics these days. It's difficult to know the accuracy of the source of the information that we get on the television networks, cable news, talk radio, and the internet. Both sides of the argument are guilty of deception.... SO BEWARE of who you choose to believe!

Good comment Spence. I found those video's while looking at a video on saving electricity and consequently, co2 emissions.

So, even though I didn't do the research on who was behind Good magazine, any website that is supporting the "Global warming" cause, should have tipped me off.

And I did make the comment to Indira that while they pointed out McCain's class rank, they didn't point out Obama's class rank. Granted, McCain is the one who offered that information in a town hall type question and answer meeting, but still, after watching them again I can see the slant.

Spence, I know you're a busy guy, but since you brought up the possibility, I want to issue you a challenge. I want you to say three nice, genuinely complimentary things about Al Gore. I know how it feels to dislike the man, I'm not too far removed from being a right-leaning guy myself. But you're right, whether we concentrate on the positive or negative on any person is up to us.

(I picked Gore, because I felt that would challenge you more than Clinton)

Indeed this will be a challenge, but I'm always up to a good challenge. You are right that Gore is a little more difficult for me because I dont like (I don't think any of us do) hypocrisy and I see a lot of it in him.

Now that I've started off with an insult, the challenge was to say three nice, genuinely complimentary things about Algore... I mean Al Gore. All joking aside, I am now being genuine and sincere:

1. My first compliment has more to do with his method and less to do with the actions and behaviors and policies surrounding the method. Don't get me started on global warming. However misguided he might be, I believe he does genuinely care about the environment. If more people did, then we'd have a cleaner, safer planet. Taking responsibility is never a bad thing. Being an activist for a cause you're passionate about is a good thing. So even though I sort of qualified it, this is a genuine, sincere compliment --> he cares enough about an issue that he'll actually do something about it instead of just complaining like most people do.

2. Once again, taking the politics out of it, I admire the fact that he has spent more than 30 years of his life in public service. This is admirable, especially in a world where everyone is trying to tear you down, make you look bad and expose everything you've ever done. Being a public servant brings with it a level of accountability that does not exist for activists. I admire anyone who is willing to give of their time and abilities to serve the greater public good when they could easily make 3-4 times the money in the private sector.

3. He served in the army for two years (1969-1971). I admire anyone who voluntarily serves in the military, protecting our country.....regardless of their motivations.

I would hope that my "political adversaries" would be able to look at me objectively and identify positive, good things about me even though we disagreed politically. So, having said that, I decided to make a show of good faith and come up with two additional items:

4. He's a published author.... something I've always wanted to do.

5. There is also evidence to suggest that he is a good father and husband. Even though he later accepted Bill Clinton's invitation to run as the veep, he initially announced he would not run as a candidate for president in the 1992 election citing reasons of needing rather to be in the role of father and husband (his son had recently almost lost his life after he was hit by a car). This shows good judgement with priorities and I admire that.

I'm sure I could come up with more but this satisfies the given challenge (thank you Andy), and goes the extra mile. And now I digress.
