"Slate writers take a highlighter to Obama's speech and tell you what it really means."
I haven't read the whole speech yet, but I glanced at the highlighted parts. Some comments are complimentary, others are critical. I'm sure they could have highlighted much more, not sure why they limited their critique as much as they did.

Slate leans left so I was surprised to see some of their comments. I guess their is some hope in journalism.
I dvr'd Obama's speech so that I could watch it later. Sometimes it's different watching it instead of reading it because of tone and voice inflection which you don't get when reading.
I have heard both conservative and of course liberal commentators saying that this was the best political speech they've heard since some of Bill Clinton's masterpiece speeches.
I have to agree that it was a very inspiring speech as a whole. There were the occasional digs which you expect from either candidate against each other, but by and large it focused on themes which were intended to get people excited.
I found myself saying to myself as I listened to Obama.. yeah, conservatives believe that too... yeah conservatives want that as well... Much of what was "so great" about his speech are things that everybody wants. Which shows that in political races, communication is everything. Both sides say what everyone wants to hear and whoever comes across as the most believable, or as the most connected to ordinary common Americans will win -- seemingly regardless (at least for the most part) of what their polices will be to achieve those ends.
But yeah, it was a great speech.
Agreed, it's all about saying what they want to hear...
