"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." Mark Twain
I was telling Chris at the reunion about how much I like this quote. I think there is a lot of truth to it. Until we mingle with a different society, we will usually always misunderstand it.
For anyone who is interested in the US/Iran relationship (and I think we all should be), this article presents a point of view different than what is usually spoken about. The author is Fatemeh Keshavarz, a professor of Persian Language and Comparative Literature at Washington University in St. Louis. As a native Iranian, I would think that her assessment is somewhat accurate.
Fatemeh Keshavarz
Where she falls politically, I don't know, although she takes a shot at McCain in her article. That doesn't necessarily imply her political leaning, maybe she just didn't like what he said. Either way, I found the article interesting, and I wanted to share it.
Joking About Killing Iranians with Bombs and Cigarettes
As a side note, this article was published on the "counterpunch" website. It is a website that publishes authors from all sides of the spectrum. The editors of Counterpunch have attacked political leaders on the left and right, and their own personal convictions are open to scrutiny. It is just this article itself that I am sharing, not support for Counterpunch itself.
