Here are two interesting articles about Russia.
Russia offers Chavez nuclear help amid US tensions
Russia to build missile defence shield and renew nuclear deterrence
With the growing tensions with Russia over Georgia, Poland, and Iran along with the behavior of the Russian government sending Warships to Venezuela not to mention the resolution to rebuild their nuclear deterrent, it is hard not to see parallels of these events with what happened in the Cold War and what happened with Cuba and the Soviets.
Have we dropped the ball with Russia? Did we become so preoccupied with terrorism and others issues that we have missed the resurgence of Russia's strength and distaste for us?
We watched "The Sum of all Fears" again the other night and it makes me wonder if that could really happen. Tensions are high and it wouldn't take much from some other enemy of the U.S. to set us on a collision course with Russia. It's sounds unlikly but it is always easy to speculate and wonder.
Either way it sounds like the days of the U.S. dominating the Western Hemisphere could come to an end with the growing relations of Venezuela and Russia and perhaps a nuclear arms race will start up again.
