I realized that so far this blog has only addressed national politics and most of the family resides or is registered (as far as I know) to vote in Idaho (except Angela and Spencer). Local politics is just as if not more important as National. Even though this is Idaho's senate race it will affect the entire country if the Democrat wins, because the Republicans will lose the ability to filibuster if the Democrats get 60 in the Senate, and with Obama as President and a Democratic controlled congress all sorts of laws could be passed without challenge. I want there to be balance in the government, so the opposition of the Democrats need to have the ability to filibuster, so in other words even though Angela and Spencer can't vote in Idaho they may want to follow what is going on for it can affect the nation.
I took a look into who our choices are for the open Senate seat that World Famous Senator Craig is vacating. They are Republican Jim Risch, Independent Rex Rammell, Libertarian Kent Marmon, and Democrat Larry LaRocco.
Here are their websites.
Jim Risch
Rex Rammell
Kent Marmon
Larry LaRocco
From what I have found out on these individuals I have developed opinions and likes, so far this is how I rank them as to how I would vote for them for I have not yet ruled any of them out.
1) Rex Rammell
2) Jim Risch
3) Kent Marmon
4) Larry LaRocco
-Rammell is an Independent but has conservative values and policy proposals much of which I agree with not to mention he would be free of both Republican and Democratic Party influences in Washington.
-Risch is Republican and shares much of the positions of the Republican party. I would rather have someone without Republican party influences and still be conservative and be in office at this time, not to mention he is a life time politician.
-Marmon is a Libertarian and is mostly conservative but supports the idea of socialized health care.
-LaRocco is a Democrat that seems to share much of the positions that the Democratic Party stands for.
This is a short summary of these candidates, but for more info go to their websites.

Just a little extra tid-bit to what Nate posted about the candidates for Idaho Senate: Rex Rammell is LDS. Now, don't let that influence your vote in any way :-)
Nate, I agree with you about wanting a balance in government. However, in Idaho, that has very rarely been the case. Because Idaho is and almost always has been scarlet red (I think the last time Idaho went blue was with FDR), political balance is far from a reality in Idaho.
So if you all want to create political balance in Idaho (bring balance to the Force), you all should vote for LaRocco. :-) Somehow, though, I have a feeling political balance just lost its significance, now that it involves voting for the "other guy".
There have been a few bills in Idaho shot down by the Republican majority that would have done Idaho a lot of good. One that comes to mind was a bill brought before the Idaho Congress last year that would have required all Idaho daycare centers to require background checks of all current and prospective employees, in an effort to clamp down on child molestation and all that.
Well, the Republicans in the Idaho Congress (which is like 80% of Congress...but I'm not sure) objected to the bill on the following grounds: Background checks should not be required because mothers should not be taking their kids to daycare anyway but should be at home raising their children.
Wow....I'm speechless. Need I say more about the utter ignorance and detachment from reality of our pathetic Idaho Congress?
Your right Chris, However the balance I was referring to was at the national level and Rammell is running for the U.S. Senate in Idaho. So Rammell and LaRocco have little to do with the Idaho Congress but with Rammell in the U.S. Senate that will help stabilize the filibuster in the Senate and also Rammell will not have to answer to Democrats or Republicans but LaRocco will.
True....they are running for US Senate, which has little to do with Idaho Congress. I suppose my local frustration gave way and temporarily confused me as I mixed the two Congresses.
