The Supermajority not reached!

The democrats were hoping to have 60 seats in the Senate after the election but it appears that they only obtained 57 seats. There are still three Senate races in question as to who is the winner in Alaska, Minnesota, and Georgia. However when you look at the count it is really close but in each race the republican has a few more votes so it is likely that the republican will win all three. I sure that the democratic contender is contesting the count because it is so close.

With that said it will not be easy for the democrats to vote down a filibuster in the Senate for they would have to convince three republicans to vote with them. I could see them convincing one or maybe two but three will be hard. Also, we must take into account that Joe Lieberman (an Independent but registered Democrat) is being alienated by the Democrats because of his support for John McCain. He is likely to be removed from chairing a Senate Committee by Reid. So they might not have Lieberman's cooperation either. So now that have to convince 4 Senators to vote with them to stop a filibuster. Reid looking to remove Lieberman as committee head

Also I noticed that Joe Biden was up for re-election and he won his Senate race but since he is going to be V.P. who really becomes the Delaware Senator? Does the Republican win and take the spot or does the Governor appoint someone since Biden will have to resign? Anyone know? If a republican were to take the seat then that lowers the Democrats seats to 56 minus Joe Biden's seat and maybe 55 seats if Joe Lieberman is alienated too heavily.

Thank goodness they did not get this kind of control or liberal legislation would be passing left and right.

Good question Nate - I have no idea. I am glad that the Democrats don't have too much control - that isn't good for any party.
